Low Elo Forum > Tips for A new Jungler
http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/jungling-101-what-you-need-to-know-77704
As with everything on MobaFire it needs to be taken with a grain of salt as it can be outdated and every game is different. A great place to start though with routes, warding spots, spawn times, etc.
Good luck, it's a JUNGLE out there......D' oh!

When first learning the jungle you will want to invest into a sturdy runepage for the champion you have chosen.
x9 Attack Speed Marks
x9 Armor Seals
x9 Magic Resist Per Lvl
x3 Movespeed Quints
The above runepage is a very basic one, but its pretty universal with the exception of a few champions. Basic attacks mean a lot in the jungle, especially your first clear, and your armor seals will take care of most damage coming your way. After you have your runepage setup you will want to work with your masteries depending on the jungler. Early defense masteries with a splash in utility is my usual setup. It really depends on the champion and how you play them.
Your starting items are also very important. Almost anyone can jungle with a cloth armor + x5 healthpots, but once your comfortable you'll find other starts to be better.

For junglers that rely more on auto-attack, I go x9 Attack Speed Marks, x9 Armor Seals, x9 Magic Resist per Lvl, x3 Armor Quints. This gives 15% Attack Speed, 25 Armor, and 24 MR at lvl 18. All Jungle camps just do physical damage, so having the extra armor will help and allow you to deviate from the standard cloth armor, x5 health pot build. For spell-casting junglers, I'll swap out the x9 Attack Speed Marks for x9 Armor Marks to get a nice 34 Armor just from runes.
Good junglers to start with:
Warwick - probably easiest autoattacking jungler as his passive allows him to jungle safely. However also makes him one of the slower junglers in terms of jungle clear speed and his ganks before lvl 6 aren't scary
Udyr - fast jungle clear, and provides lots of CC for teamfights while being very tanky, also can gank early
These probably are among the easier junglers, but just about every champ can jungle. Practice the jungle route in a coop vs ai game or custom game unless you are playing a premade with friends.

Coming from an experienced jungler, without going into mechanics, remember to ALWAYS keep timers on all map objectives i.e. buffs, dragon, baron nashor and be accepting of the blind hate you will receive as a jungler. People are gonna cry about not getting ganks but don't let that stop you from continuing to jungle and continuing to improve!

I would look into jungling Udyr as Crystal has already mentioned. I use the following guide from a decent pro jungler.
Basic Jungle Phoenix Udyr Guide
This is who I first jungled, then moved on to some other ones. I believe the videos are a tad outdated, but still relevant. Good luck!

I jungle amumu as my 2nd Character after teemo. How do you keep times on buffs? is there an add on you can get?
TheFalv
I know there are some apps out there for the iPod/iPad/iPhone that can keep timers. Generally, I just keep an eye on the in-game timer (upper right) and add from there. Small camps are 1 minute, buffs are 5 minutes, dragon is 6, and baron is 7 minutes. Keeping timers is like any other skill you pick up playing the game, like map awareness on the minimap, timing wards, last hitting, knowing your full combo damage, etc.
One last great tip i can suggest is use custom bot or coop vs ai bot games to try out any champ in the jungle. When you get to be experienced enough, you will find that you can literally jungle with any champ now. The more you jungle the better you'll become and understand jungle routes. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take smite. If you are jungling, and you don't have smite, you are trolling your team... No exceptions
Crystal Chen
Yea i had a feeling you'd say that. I can time it reasonably well using the clock or even now by intuition after playing so long as a jungler. Anyone else use amumu? What 2nd summoner spell do you take as a jungler? mine varies from Flash/Heal/Clarity
TheFalv
@TheFalv The Summoner spell you take other than Smite depends on the champion you pick and your own playstyle. Flash is a versatile one, but some do better with Ghost instead. Lee Sin can jump all over the place by himself, so taking Exhaust can be very strong with him. I've never personally taken Heal or Clarity as a SS if jungling. Sustain largely comes from the champs/items.
Wisherex
only reason i have Clarity is to give me full mana if i need to go gank or rush to stop a gank. I only really jungle Amumu and his ulti is awesome for saving teams.
TheFalv
My question is why are you running oom a lot that you need a clarity? No champ in the game should EVER take clarity. The effectiveness of clarity inevitably drops until it becomes pretty much useless by late game as champs that needed mana would have built up mana items or use blue buff. It simply is overshadowed by every single other summoner spell in the game while helping maybe the tiniest bit early game during laning phase for a small handful of champs.
For champs that lack tons of CC, I like to use exhaust as the second summoner. I'd consider ghost pretty much only on Olaf or Shen. Flash helps for a gap closer (Alistar, Amumu, Rammus, Fiddlesticks, warwick, udyr). Gank heavy junglers, definitely getting exhaust is a huge help in securing kills for your team on the ganks.
Crystal Chen
Bandage toss is a good enough gap closer that i find flash to be a bit needless. I rock heal/Teleport alot. Clarity i find good in the end game team fights where they jump you unexpected. If the team fight is even enough and going on a while Despair can drain mana.
Also i use Clarity for support. If i see my mid is low Mana and blue buff is not up/Robbed i pop clarity under the tower and it helps them push.Same works in team fights you can often see the AP drop all their bust and just be mana screwed so you can renew it. Its not perfect i am aware and people often see it as trolling to be honest. I feel it does help the team more this way though
TheFalv
At higher levels, bandage toss is too easily dodged by players. For amumu a more reliable engage when ganking a lane is flash-ult-bandage toss. This gives a full stun duration of both of Amumu's CC which should give adequate time to secure a kill.
For jungling and junglers, I still feel that you want to take summoners that will help you do your job better - that is secure buffs and global objectives and ganks. Clarity offers very little in terms of a gank and is only useful if the lane your ganking is doing really badly that they are OOM. Flash can be used offensively and defensively so helps in closing distance suddenly and escape from a bad situation. Exhaust is a slow that can only be stopped with cleanse (oranges, spell shields, qss do nothing for exhaust) - this helps secure kills in ganks, and if you took the passive make the target even easier to kill. As an added bonus, exhaust is also amazing defensively as it reduces damage the target deals significantly.
Clarity just doens't give the same utility for a jungler to do their job compared to either of the above. Teleport is situational (if they have a strong split pushing ability - like Shen, TF) then someone on your team should get teleport to be able to follow them - usually Top lane. Heal gives a stat every champ will need in teamfights, which is more health. Ignite can be used if you are playing a carry jungler but this will make for unbelievably strong ganks with Red buff.
Crystal Chen
All fair points. Only time i do Clarity is with my mates when we team. I would never do it in solo for fear of reports. must try and get away from clarity
TheFalv
Some good advice in here. My suggestion is to Duo Queue with a friend who wants to play top or mid. Most of your rage will come from the solo lanes and having a friend in one of the lanes can lessen the pressure on you as you learn to jungle.
I recommend Maokai with AS Marks (TheOddOne has a guide on SoloMid) or Nautilus. Both are great fun to play start to finish in a game plus you can satisfy two roles easily (tank and jungle) which your team will appreciate.
About being reported for a summoner spell.....don't worry about it. I can guarantee you will not get in trouble for utilizing a feature Riot themselves put in the game. Now if you choose revive and feed ....well.....that's a whole different story.
ZenRush
Trick to keeping times.
Use Chat. Especially if you are in solo que or team play with voice, chat can be used to save times easily.
Simply type a time and a buff name.
1:55 AB - ally blue
1:75 AR - ally red
2:14 EB - enemy blue
3:25 ER - enemy red
8:00 DR - dragon
15:00 BA - baron
Ignore /all to not clutter the channel.
