Just to clear up, Michael Jordan was never cut from his college team at North Carolina. He wasn't even cut from his highschool team - the story has been proliferated and changed like a game of telephone.
He was a sophomore and failed to make Varsity in highschool because the school had a policy against playing underclassmen on Varsity. There was controversy because Leroy Smith was a sophomore and got to play on Varsity that year, because he was 6'7'' and Jordan had not yet hit his growth spurt. The coach even said he chose Smith over Jordan because they needed more tall players.
He even included this in his Hall of Fame speech he gave in 2009, flying Smith out and calling out his old highschool coach (Pop Herring).
