Episode 20: “Hay Que Luchar” by Adelit@s

There's awesome and then there's that special form of awesome that nobody else knows about. It's the foundation of hipster culture (Dave accuses me of being a hipster quite often...). Adelit@s is that kind of awesome without being hipster at all.

They're a Portland OR-based anarchopunk band driven by alternating female-male vocals in Spanish inspired by Latin American revolutionary music. The band formed in 2006 with a few acoustic guitars and covers of old punk songs from Argentina and Spain and soon settled into its lineup. The name comes from a popular Mexican folk song and refers to the women who organized and took up arms during the Mexican Revolution. In this spirit the lyrics have focused on struggles around the border, immigration, and popular social movements that threaten the status quo.

Episode 19: "The Big Kahuna" by Torrentz

Torrentz is a nerdcore collaborative and they're responsible for some of the most expertly crafted tracks in the genre. Personally, I listen to them while recording Low Elo, while playing League of Legends and even while writing this paragraph.

On the 5th of November 2009, two Nerdcore artists that met on the boards of Rhymetorrents.org submitted  their first Songfight track "Welcome Home Frank". Although that particular entry didn't win, it did pave the way for one of the first Nerdcore Supergroups, Torrentz. London-based producer / rapper Milk-Plus and his US counterpart Fatback Supreme continued to write and record, submitting regularly to Songfight, while recruiting a host of fresh rap talent from the Nerdcore community to feature on their tracks.

Episode 18: “Fake It” by Brad Sucks

There are some artists with songs you can't help but continue to replay. Brad Sucks is one of them and it earned him a spot on the show this week. I've listened to many of his tracks while on the Fields of Justice in League of Legends.

Brad Turcotte, performing under the name Brad Sucks, is a musician from Ottawa, Ontario. Turcotte releases his songs under a copyleft license. Promoting his music through sites such as Magnatune and ccMixter, as well as MySpace and Podsafe, he has used micropatronage to profit from his work without restricting the freedom to share and modify it. That is to say his entire catalogue is up for free and he accepts donations.
