Low Elo Podcast EP. 95 - Support Is Dead

On Low Elo 95, Dave and Jeff talk about the state of the support game in the current version. With so many changes recently, it's hard to ignore the effects but it's also easy to believe that more changes are on the way. The only thing that stays the same is that nother ever stays the same.

This week, we ask you which champion would make the best mall Santa replacement and what you'd ask them for while on their lap (you know, before the picture).  Send your game submissions, holiday email, promotions and around the world updates to team@lowelo.com.

Again, please give a visit to our sponsor at audiblepodcast.com/lowelo and download your free audio book - we love the service and wouldn't recommend it if we didn't use it ourselves!

You can catch the hosts on twitter as EatGamer and LowEloDave.

This episode's soundtrack is The Last of the Last by Mário Gajarský.

Great podcast guys was perfect timing because I had just dropped someone off at the airport this morning and was able to listen to your cast on the drive back home really made my day.

Here's something to ponder for the preseason:

I feel that jungle has become a lesser role now with the new support changes and the ability to rack up gold just by being in lanes. What if SR started having a double support game where you would give not just your adc but your top lane a support as well. Either both supports can start out with a relic shield, or get coin. Then top lane would be free to take both red and golems for extra gold and bot would have wolves and the ghost. I think it would make the jungler on the enemy team weaker because then the only real lane they can focus on would be mid and its easy enough to stay safe there.

Let me know what you guys think!

You can swap the trinkets out. Starting with the ward one as support and jungle is the best choice but both can swap as the game progresses so that you can deny vision without buying pink wards.

It takes much less time to clear wards with a 5 man team.

I couldn't disagree more about the support champions. Yes the new gold income opens the option up for more unusual supports, but the traditional supports are designed around performing that role specifically. You say that no one will play Soraka, have you actually tried her? She is beastly this patch and from my experience she combos well with Lucian and Sivir, who are very strong this patch as well.

Other champions being viable to take bot lane doesn't diminish the power of the traditional supports in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. Soraka with AP is strong and Sona is still king if there isn't an Annie bot lane. Nami, Janna, Lulu, and Zyra really took it the hardest as they don't scale that well with AP at all and don't offer anything in lane other than CC type skills.

Just putting my 2 cents in here but I actually love the changes to support and I'm a support player mainly.

I enjoy that I can scale through the game and that the ward responsibility has been spread across the whole team. I enjoy that in team fights it's not just about hitting a stun and/or heal and that's it. Now I can actually stick around and deal some damage too.
